Nice looking truck! How much did those tires affect your fuel economy?

I think about 1-2 MPGs, but it is hard to say because my wife drives this on a daily basis on a very short commute so the milage is only showing like 12.5mpg now. Truck has 4100 mi on it, but most of that is from a 5mi commute stop and go. I am going to reset milage tomorrow as I have a 40 mi drive into Anchorage so we will see what it does at 65mph. (this truck usually doesn't get above 50 with her commute). It is garaged but when it is -15* out like it was this morning milage is going to suck no matter what.

I was a little dissappointed with the the milage but hell it is a truck, I have added aggressive tires, level kit, and now a grill guard so who really cares. As it sits now she can make it almost 4 weeks before having to fill it up so that is not too bad I guess. I would be happy to see 16-18 mpg on the highway doing 65 with the way this truck is equipped now. I will report back on this tomorrow so you will know

Your (wife's) truck looks great! Hopefully you will be able to borrow it when you want.

The new rubber really makes the truck meaner looking. Put in your signature of mods.

Keep us posted on your Alaska adventures!

Thanks for the compliments guys! My average today into Anc was 15mpg at 70mph with a trip in town to the airport and back out to the highway. Temp ranged from -3* to 9* throughout the trip. Not bad I guess considering how it is equipped, hopefully will get better this summer.

When this truck was brand new we took a trip to Homer and it was completely stock, even the tires. I averaged 18.5-19mpg on that trip if I recall and that was in June when we had better temps.

So do you think this truck is getting "normal" milage for the way it is equipped? I kind of think it should be getting a little better, but everyone says the bigger more aggressive tire make a BIG difference.

I think you're in the ballpark. Although the tires are only 1" taller, they are considerably wider. Also, aggressive tires aren't as aerodynamic, capture more air between the lugs, and add a considerable amount of rolling resistance due to them being heavier. Also, by leveling the truck, you add more chassis turbulence into the equation. All of that combined with cold temps, winter blend fuel, the cattle catcher, I'd say 15 mpg is ballpark. I'd expect 16-17 in warmer temps and summer fuel. You really don't have a whole lot of things in your favor this time of year! Regardless, the truck looks great! Enjoy it.

I went from 16.4 mpg driving like a grandpa on stock 275/45/20 Perelli's.
Then 2" leveling kit and 305/55/20 Nitto's (Terra Grapplers) and went to 13 mpg. Next steps will be computer programmer then CAI.
I forgot I have old school 5.4

man, great build!! the truck looked so burley w/o that brush guard tho, it kinda killed the look you had going on, i think a bull bar would have looked ten-fold better IMO. BUT, its your truck and either way it doesnt look bad at all. i was up in SE AK about 2 monthst ago on the cruise and i cant wait to go back, the best scenery i have ever laid eyes on!!!keep up the good work, you have a nice fleet of vehicles!

haha I did the same trip saturday night. My edge was showing about 15mpg at 68mph for the trip, dropped to 13.5 running around downtown though...

During the summer I average about 17mpg on the same drive, the cold weather, snow, and winter fuel are killing my mpg...

I'm headed down to Soldotna Wednesday night for Thanksgiving and am planning on fueling up on Diamond then at Freds when I get in. I have pulled 18mpg 3 different times during the summer, so we'll see what this brings, I'm hoping for 16 lol
