Air Box Snorkel Removed....
Bright and early this morning I removed the good 'ol Air Box Snorkel and I am pleased with the results. A little more throttle response and finally some V-8 growl from under the hood. Plus, there was a minor increase in the exhaust note. It was very easy to remove as stated in previous posts, just remove drivers side headlight and then pull out snorkel by hand with ease. Results will be better once I install the AFE Pro Dry S Filter. Thanks to all the helpful posts....

Cool, I was thinking about doing that the other day. Didn't know you had to take the head light out. I was just gonna remove the whole bottom section of the box, but it looked like it was bolted to all kinds of stuff so I never messed with it. Ever thought about enlarging the hole? I did that on my old spec v before I put the intake on it and it made it a good bit louder.

doesnt the snorkel snap into the airbox? I removed mine today by removing the 2 13mm bolts and the airbox cover and filter then the airbox pops off and the snorkel comes with it then I snapped the snorkel out of the airbox

Mostly just changes the sound. I would say no on the 7 HP. Probably not any negative (or positive for that matter) side effects. I would also seriously doubt any change in MPG - people cite performance/MPG gains from a variety of mods but since driving habits are so varied, it's nigh impossible to prove any of them beyond dyno results (which wouldn't help you with MPG claims AFAIK).
