Aftermarket wheel durability in winter seasons
#11
This is my first set of black wheels. And I treat them like the chrome wheels I used before. I just spray off spot free rinse when I get back from traveling on roads with snow, and try not let anything stay on them to long. And wash them real good once a month. And polish, wax, before and after winter and the lake season. Haven't had any issues ever.

I have black Raceline Raptors on my Ranger. This will be the third winter with them, and zero problems. I'd have preferred polished aluminum, but gave up on the aftermarket ones, especially American[made in china]Racing. Just didn't hold up at all.
On the F150, I'm using Raptor OEM machined, no doubt those will be fine.
The Ranger, taken after DuraTrac install this summer, two winters on those wheels at that time.

Anything with a machined surface will get ugly due to salt. My XDs did, this year I coated them in crown protectant hopefully they don't get worse.

Polished aluminum is the finish you don't want. HORRIBLE to keep looking nice and generally require hand polishing annually.
Machined is great because most machined wheels have a clearcoat over them also. I also verify that wheels are clearcoated before buying. With the clearcoat, you can just wash them with soap and water like the rest of the truck and they stay looking nice year round.
Black painted is also easy to clean, but as always the key is to make sure the road chemicals don't stay on the wheels very long before being sprayed off.
