200 is pretty normal for me pulling a 30ft enclosed through the mountains, If tough climb ive seen it in the ~240 range if the TC is unlocked. 260 you better do something about it.

I pull off when I see temp above 230 and let it cool down to 200 before continuing on. This happens a few times every summer when pulling my 6k pound travel trailer in the mountains at slower speeds below 45mph (2nd gear, converter does not lock in 2nd). I'd say you are fine as long as you are below 220 for sustained towing time.

Do any of you guys have the max tow package there is a bigger cooler added. So I'd you have the standard towing package maybe you could upgrade your cooler to the max tow one

Transmission cooler is the same size for max tow and regular tow package. I had a 12 supercrew 5.0 with standard tow package and now have a max tow, same 4 row transmission cooler in both. I believe the engine radiator is thicker on the max tow, and it has an extra leaf spring in the rear.

cbr is correct...with more fluid it'll take longer to reach full temp. But, I will add that it will also take longer to cool down. And your peak temps will driving for an extended period of time will be the same.

I personally think they're a waste of money. I have one on my Mustang, but really I just wanted the drain plug. I could have done that a lot cheaper.

They have there place. Especially for drag guys that just need to keep the transmission from heating up for a few extra seconds while they are on the trans brake. In this case the car will have plenty of time to cool before it's next pass. This is more for a dedicated drag car. I can think of a few street and off road situations where they might be worth it.

However if your towing and your trans temp is a issue I would go with a bigger or better cooler. That's the only way your going to stay in control of those rising temps.

+Install was straight forward except for the following: the fluid pickup extension that is supposed to fit on the original filter did not. Instructions say might not be required on newer models; mine is a 2013. Purchased new filter from O'Reilly's. Fluid pickup extension still did not fit this filter. Decided to use original filter without fluid pickup extension.
+Added approx. 3.5 gallons of AMSOIL Signature Series OE Fuel Efficient fluid. Test drove with no issues.
-Drove today for an extended period of time expecting to see a normal operating temperature 10-20 degrees lower than the OE 190-199F with stock pan and Trans Oil cooler. Temperature reached 190F, although it seemed to take significantly longer than normal which is a good thing.

Questions for the forum:
The whole reason for purchasing this $300+ pan (which looks fantastic and is well made) was to lower the temp of the transmission when I'm towing my Cobalt 232 in the Texas heat. Normal towing temp is around 203-206F. I was hoping to see a Max of 180F but with normal temps in the winter at least 190F I don't think the pan is going to help any.
1. Did I waste my money?
2. Is the pan simply going to prevent my towing temps from dipping into the low 200sF ranges? (I will follow up next summer with an answer)
3. Is not using a filter that fits the fluid pickup extension affecting the overall temp by not grabbing the coolest fluid towards the bottom of the pan?
I bought a wix filter the extension worked fine, the oem did not work with it. I have a leak on the passenger rear side where the down pipe crosses over did you have any problem with that and did you use the same gasket or did you buy a new one. thank you
