Advice for new buyer?
Hey guys,
Hoping to bug you for some advice. I'm looking into buying a used f150 (2009s to 2013s). I'm looking at crew cab 4x4's. Don't do a lot of towing but would like to be able to tow a trailer a few times a year. I do spend a lot of time in the outdoors so 4x4 is a must. Other than that I'm pretty open.
I did a few searches here but was wondering if you all had any specific recommendations on what to look out for?
Thanks for your time
Dan

Need more info on options you want. Cheap good truck is a lower optioned xlt with the base motor...the 5.0. A nicer ride is a lariat or higher trim level. If you throw a tune in for a few hundred bucks an ecoboost would be a much more fun and faster ride but more expensive as the ecoboost holds it value used.

Be careful, or you will end up paying close to the same for a late model used truck as you would for a marked down new one. Factor in the warranty, lower interest rate, and "new smell", and in many cases new is the way to go.
If you're only saving a couple thousand on a two year-old truck with 40,000 miles, why do it?

I was looking for "slightly" used as well . But with the big rebates , incentives and 0% interest on the 14's . I couldn't go used ..I got a 14 STX screw 2wd ,5.0 v/8 , for 30k , with 5 miles vs a 35-38k for a 13 XLT with 37,000 miles

I was also shopping used and ended up buying a 2014 STX scab 4x2 5.0L
With incentives and discounts I paid $25,000 cdn including a 7 year extended bumper to bumper warranty. Everything used was within a couple of thousand of what I paid. It was easy to justify going new.
I'm very happy with the truck. It has the towing package but not the integrated brake controller. I love the way it tows.
4wd might have been nice but wasn't worth the upcharge over the 2wd.

If you learn the bottom line price of new, which is based on invoice--not msrp, a good price is 1000 below invoice. I wanted to buy used and had exactly the experience above.
