Question 4.6L 3V MPG's

I have a Crew Cab 4X4 with the 4.6L 3V 6 speed auto with the 3:73 rear end. The truck has a little over 8,000 miles on it. Stock wheels and tires with no lift. I recently made a 665 mile round trip and my milage was 16.8 mpg's. This was all highway using cruise control set at 70 - 75 mph.

I thought my mpg's to be a little low. What have others that have this same set up experience ???

This is hand calculated. The read out on the dash said 18.4 mpg's when I filled up.

That's not bad I don't think. The high estimate is 18 MPG highway which you would probably get closer to at 60-65 MPH. I have found my readout to be consistently ~1 MPG higher than I actually get.

yeah that's probably average considering you've got the 3.73 rear end.

The window sticker stated an epa rating of 14 - 19 mpg's (I know I should not put too much thought into that window sticker). I figured I would get closer to the 19 mpg's mark on the highway. I guess I should have gotten the 3:55 rear end for that, but I love the 3:73 LS.

I bet if you made the same trip with the cruise set at 60-65 you'd get 1.5-2 mpg better. I get the same improvement when I do the same.

18.5 avg. consistantly , week after week. Lots of highway driving back and forth to work. set cruise at 70. Like statikuz said, readout says about 1 mpg higher. 09 xlt 4x4 4.6 3.73

I have a 2009 4x4 6speed regular cab with 3v 4.6 with cruise set at 60 I get I have gotten as high as 22 mpg but it has never dropped below 19 unless I do slot of city driving. Then it is 16-17 mpg.

Well next trip I take I will try setting the cruise at 65mph or so and see what happens. I would love to get 18.5 mpg consistently ....

most highway estimates are done at 60mph, so cruising at 75 takes quite a bit more gas than cruisin at 60.

Interesting - the average speed of the "highway driving" test is only 48 MPH.
