For anybody using the USB2, have you ever run into a problem where you SYNC will go into a "indexing" phase and never come out? I had this issue on my previous FX4 with SYNC, and Ford determine I had a bad SYNC module and replaced it. I did some googling, and I seem to have found at least 1 other person who had this "issue" when using USB2.

You could swap the two cables at the rear of the Sync unit: then "USB" would be in your glove compartment off your cable, and "USB2" would be on your dash.

(Probably not worth doing if you are using both ports; but if only using 1 port, then that would remove any potential problem. I haven't heard any problems with using both ports.)

This is what I currently do. I purchased the actual usb cable from tasca, and have it running into the glove compartment. I may hook up usb2 again, but so far I don't need it.

Default USB Hub?

Did anyone ever try out the USB hub option that a few of you were discussing?

Really STUPID question----What is the main purpose of this mod?? I'm very new to Sync, and I know I haven't used it to it's full capabilities. Which is basically me doing the hands free calling and Ipod when I say "USB". Otherwise, I have no clue what else it really does.

The reason for the mod is to keep the thumb drive or ipod hidden in the glove box.
I also just ordered the cable from the meestore on ebay. Looking forward to getting it the first week of Feb.

I have a 160 GB hdd that is powered only by the usb plug so I just used a regular mini usb to standard usb plug to connect it to usb2. The hdd is formatted as fat32 like the memory sticks.

Default Cable

Since I wasnt patient enough to wait 2 weeks on a cable from Hong Kong, I picked up this cable from CompUSA and it worked well.

Default USB2 with Nano

Did you have any luck with the gender bender? I have the same problem you described with my nano 5th gen. Also tried a new 6th gen nano but still get device unsupported. I ordered the gender bender but haven't received it yet.
