Forgive me if this has been discussed, I couldn't find anything on it. I have a 2010 F150, just recently my AC started acting up. When I turn the fan up, there is a loud vibration coming from the passenger side of the truck, sounds like under the dash. Is this the fan motor going out? Any help is appreciated.
My wife's '14 Escape was doing this. We found that mice had put insulation from the top of the wheel wells down into the fan. The cotton- like insulation in there made the fan out of balance.
Good luck with yours.
My 2013 F150 Platinum with 146k miles started having exact issue described in this thread. Rumbling noise and dash vibration apparent when A/C fan speed increased to level 3. Noise/vibration kept increasing with higher fan speeds.
Removed glove box and blower to find broken actuator piece in squirrel cage. Video links provided in previouse posts were great help.
As previous posters describe, blower motor securing screw removal and the blower motor removal is difficult because of space restrictions. I used 8mm ratcheting combination wrench to remove back left screw on blower. 8mm socket used for back right and forward screw on blower.
Pulled back carpet to gain additional 1/4" to remove blower. The plastic molding on right side which keeps carpet from being pulled back is removind by pulling on back edge and it swings open like a door.
Following info is for those like me that didn't understand the tie wrap fix. There are two supply air ducts going to the blower. Vertical duct is fresh air intake. Horizontal duct is recirculation air intake. There is a plastic gate which pivots 90 degrees to block off one of the ducts. This gate will no longer function since the actuator piece has broken off and fallen in the squirrel cage. There is a plastic screen upstream of the fresh air intake duct. The tie wrap is installed on this screen and the bitter end of the tie wrap hangs down and simply blocks the gate from swinging. The gate is now permanently closing off the fresh air intake. The system is now always in recircualtion mode regardless of buttons pressed on the A/c control panel. I can live with this on a 7 year old truck and save the +/- $1500 dealer repair cost.
Thanks for the info in this post.
yep, it's either your fan or something in there. Last time this happened to me it was a bunch of leaves and a few sticks, they had made the fan out of balance.
I have the same issue with my 2014 Ford F150. Took the fan off tonight and found the rubber piece in my squirrel cage. Put it back together and sounds fine, heats fine and cools fine. My question is how does this affect my system? It seems like to me it still is doing what it is suppose to do with the piece broken. Thanks for any help.
I apologize, I'm still unclear how to handle the recirculation/fresh door...after removing blower fan, only way I can see up in there is to take a picture - not sure how the hell to contort 6'-4" and long arms to reach up in there, let alone manipulate anything and apply wire tie...
so assuming I accomplish reaching in AND seeing what I'm doing, I don't understand how to assess what state it's in, and how to alter door into recirc position (desired)....
Also, since this has happened, I'm noticing a faint cycling motor sound even just as I opened the passenger door to begin this process - no key in ignition...went on for several minutes as I worked to remove blower. Is this from the actuator motor that's trying to return the door to position or what?
Thanks to all that came before to share the details on what this problem is....really freaked me out when the whole dash and felt like steering wheel and gas pedal were vibrating like mad.
