Question AC Issues 2010 F150

Hello All,

I figured I would post my story here as I am having a continuous issue with my ac. I have done extensive reading on this forum and others and the general consensus is the 09-14 ac units are terrible. Here goes.

I purchased the truck new in 2010 (supercrew lariat, no nav). I never had an issue with the AC until 2015. I did have a problem with the heat while the truck was still under warranty. I brought it into the dealer and they replaced a capacitor or relay or something that was behind the dash. that was in 2013 but i never had any problems between then and 2015.

The problem started and it seemed to kick off with my temp control (Dual Climate Control). I was sitting at a light and it turned from 60 to 90 on its own. This happened a few times and I figured it may be that capacitor/actuator that Ford had replaced but it only happened a handful of times and my AC still worked. Fast forward a few months later and my AC started losing steam. I took it to a local mechanic (when ford replaced the actuator the service manager told me 3k to do it due to labor) who specializes in AC repair. He told me I was low and filled the unit with freon and a sealer (Red Angel) in the hopes that the leak would plug and save me some money and sent me on my way. It died again so we repeated the process with dye in lieu of the Red Angel to locate the leak. It turned out to be the evaporator and I had it replaced for 1k as the dash had to be removed. That was in October. Our winter was mild and I did not run the AC much. I did not notice any problems until April of this year when things started warming up. I just took it in and found I was 16 oz low on freon. The AC guy hooked it to the machine and it held a vacuum for 30 minutes so he said it could be a valve. He replaced that then sent me on my way. That was last week.

Now I am only getting cold air if the fan is on 1-2. If it is on high it blows hot to slightly cool. On low it will get cold after a while. I plan on going back in to get it looked at in a couple of days.

I've read tons on the subject and found my problem is common but have not found any fixes for it. I've read about the ball valve to the heater core but didn't really see any done on models after 2008. I've seen double fan mods on the condenser. I live in South Florida so it is 90+ and humid every day. Any help or insight is appreciated. If I missed a good old thread please tell me. I'm ready to sell this thing and get a Yota if I can't get it fixed.

Edit: Just read the sticky on insulating the cold air line. I thought that would be a good idea and will try it tomorrow. I'm sure it will help a bit but will it make it great????
