Default ABS or shudder or...?

took my truck to the mountains for the first time yesterday. the ride up was fine and most of the ride down was ok, but for the last 5 miles or so left when I would get on the brakes the truck would shudder. I felt this a lot in the brake pedal and a little in the steering wheel, my 2 passangers could also feel it. Once I got down the mountain and on the freeway I no longer felt it and I didnt feel it driving to work today either, but then again Im not braking as hard. so what do you guys think.

Where you in 4x4 or tow haul mode? If you were in tow haul mode you might have been engining braking if not then was it just wash boarding and the tires bouncing? More info needed please

my truck is not 4x4 and I wasnt towing anything. Im not sure about a tow mode though, does that need to be set or is it automatic of a trailer gets hooked up? the road seemed ok as it felt pretty smooth when crusing but I felt this shaking when braking only.

Tow haul mode is the little switch at the end of your shifter or the side of it depending on which type you have. You have to push it in to make it work. The only thing other then this I can think of was it dry or wet. Was it a dirt road or paved and was it wet or dry. ABS normally just pulses you brakes when you are sliding and hit the brakes hard. You may have a bad rotor or it might just be starting to go bad. But it sounds more like you hit the brakes twice in tow haul mode and the engine brake came on. Try it and see if that is what you felt.

I checked out the settings and the only thing that was on was a trailer sway control, dont really think that was it. Other than that a buddy of mine who was a mechanic said that the brakes may have just gotten really hot. I havent felt it since.
