also don't forget that 03 diesel didn't have a DPF filter. Those years (pre 08) were the highest MPG trucks made. Nothing on the road can touch a pre DPF diesel in MPG's and towing MPG. As mentioned before apples to oranges. Your MPG towing that boat is pretty damn good in my book. Just curious, your wheels obviously aren't factory, are your tires a different size also? Any change in tire/wheel width and weight will murder your MPG.

Its a 1990 Baja 250. 26' 9" overall length. its 4000lbs according to the OEM sheet on it. the boat had zero fuel in it as i siphon it dry for winter storage, also no batteries in it either. theres maybe 100lbs max of other stuff in it since i keep all of the junk out of the boat for storage also.
Loaded with 100 gallons of fuel, batteries, all of our junk in it then its well over 5000lbs without trailer. I'm guessing at 1500lbs for the trailer?

That weight seems low for that boat. I know some manufacturers state the hull weight, which 4000 seems more reasonable. I did a quick search and the lightest weights people are reporting are over 6500 lb on trailer for a newer 25' and over 10000 lb for a 30'.

the one thing i DO notice is that this truck seems to be VERY picky about temperature, the warmer it is the better the MPG. on my commute home on the expressway if its 30 degrees out its lucky to show 15mpg on the lcd display, if its 70+ outside like it has been the last week or two it will show about 20 mpg on my commute home expressway. today the temp tanked again, it was 36 outside, and my MPG was low on the readout again???
This inboard/outboard sports runabout is 26.75 feet long and weighs 4000 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 96 inches.

mileage
I decided to run a before and after fuel mileage comparison and post the results. Before is no trailer, with about 600lbs of people and stuff. Below are two pictures from the before mileage.
I drove from Fort Worth to Waco, Tx this weekend and then drove around in Waco from Sat. to Sun. then drove back. I drove normal, not hyper-miler style but not lead footed either.
So in the first picture, I reset on the highway leaving town, and averaged about 76 MPH, and got 21.6 MPG. Not bad. I passed people and drove normal. I had a slight tailwind, but not much.
It is 100 miles there, and 100 back. The second picture is the combinded city/highway for the whole trip. I averaged about 52mph for the whole trip, and my mileage dropped to 20.3 over 250 miles. I had a slight headwind on the way back, and there were times where I was doing 80 for 10 mile stretches. I would say that I drove about 30 miles city driving, over the 250 mile trip. The rest was highway there, back, and around Waco.
What's interesting, is that if I would have slowed down a little on the way there, I would have easliy matched the EPA Hwy rating, if not improved upon it. The speed limit is 75 most of the way there.
I have the 3.55 axle, and the stock 265/60/18 michelin tires that are down to 4/32 tread depth.....the truck is completly stock except for tinted windows and an upgraded audo system.
The next time I go camping, I will reset and post the results......

i have not tried non-ethanol in the Eco, but I did just fill up my mustang and it surely does like non-ethanol better.

I'm no baja expert (mine is eliminator), but over on offshoreonly, consensus is that baja drastically understates the weight of their boats (by up to 2000 lb). Some of those guys have weighed boat and trailer and got some very high numbers.

That's completely normal. Some decent testing has concluded your economy changes by about 5% (1mpg) for every 10 degrees ambient.

I kind of wonder the samething with my targa v18 combo.... total package weight per tracker's documentation is 3500lbs. I'm willing to bet it's closer to 4000lbs dry probably near 5000lbs with full gas tank and equipment.
