Default 6R80 Dipstick

Hi all I have a 12 f150 with the 6r80. had to replace the Leadframe this week and refill with new fluid. my dipstick has a A and a B mark on the dip stick Im aware the lower mark is the "cold" level but is that with the engine running or not? thanks!

Yes, you check the trans with the engine running.

The fluid has to be at least 190 degrees..

The lower mark is for a cold non-running transmission. Trans fluid expands a lot when heated so the top mark is for a hot (190Deg F) running, in park, level transmission. It's always good to check both after a fluid change. Lower (cold) mark gets you in the ball park. Upper one is your final setting point but is a PITA to check due to hot cat being right there.

And it doesn't take more than a few ounces, either way, to make a difference.

I added an aux trans cooler and had to add fluid as a result. When you get the level close, only add a couple ounces at a time, at one point I had to "suck" some fluid out to get it just right.

With respect, this isn't accurate. When the vehicle isn't running, the trans pump isn't pumping fluid - that means that if the vehicle is off it will read high not low.

Low mark is running cold, high mark is running warm/hot.

Actually the trans should be between 195-215 degrees... you use the top half of the stick

It is typically suggested to check the trans when warm (and running in most cases) - however, the two marks are hot (top) and cold (bottom).

If the trans fluid is at or slightly above the cold line when cold AND it has the correct fluid in it, as it expands from heat it will rise to about even with the hot line.

I put myself through college as a mechanic, I've serviced hundreds of automatic transmissions (drain, change filter, etc).

This isn't rocket science, if it's in the hatch marks between the lines it's fine.

Observe markings at end of dipstick. Your dipstick might have two markings for "full"—one warm, one cold. If the automatic transmission fluid level does not come up to the "warm" line, you'll need to add automatic transmission fluid.
