Dealership is back pedaling after talking to two managers. They said $500 to put it back together without repair and $4700 with the repair.

I'm gonna look at trading in the truck. Looking at 2018 5.0s, trying to get away from ecoboost. I'll keep everyone updated.

I certainly hope you do not look at buying from that dealer, bunch of thieving bastards.

500 to put back together? First 150 diagnostics then needing 2 more hours to look at it doesn’t add up to 500 unless there are some gaskets needed. Nickle and dime them for trying to rip you off and wasting your time. Definitely do not talk trade with this dealership.

I'm hesitant. I'll keep you guys posted. I'm not gonna do business with them. Probably just pay to put back together.

thanks for the advice everyone.

12 hours to replace the timing chains? I don’t know what the book time is on it, but it didn’t take my brother and me 12 hours to do the timing chains, cam phaser, and guides on his 5.4–and we kept having to stop to look up videos on different procedures.

Then again, we didn’t even know to remove the cab first, so...

This reminds me of my experience yesterday
I am looking to replace the vinyl top on my 2014 Mustang and was calling upholsterers for quotes.
Most quoted me $800-$1,000 for the OEM top and 2-3 hours labor to remove and reinstall, with estimates ranging from $1,200 to $1,500
But this one company, recommended by a local dealer, was adamant that I could not find the top for less than $1,500 and that it took 1 hour to remove the old top and at least 10 hours to do the replacement, at $153 per hour!!!! they were insulted when I rejected their $3,200 estimate!

Most companies and people are honest, but there is always that one that makes you doubt that!

Does anyone else get the impression the OP isn't telling us everything about this "situation"?

How so? I posted the quote they gave me. Never gave them permission to separate the cab. I'm not leaving anything out. Believe what you want tho. All I asked for was a diagnostic and a quote...dealership is giving me payoff on my EcoBoost as is ($20k) and I'm looking at the 5.0s right now
