$6K for timing chain repair!?

I took my truck to my local dealership with some timingchain codes and an underboost code. they called me with a $6K quote, and a $1500 fee if i decided i didn't want to go ahead with the repair. They're reasoning was because they had to pull the body off the frame in order to examine the timing chain, they said the brackets were broke to fasten the body to the frame so that'll need to be replaced also. aswell as a crack in one of the exhaust tubing that will need to be replaced. Does the cost add up here?

I think the dealer is trying screw you. I just had the timing chain serviced on my 2012 F150 S-Crew 3.5L last month by a local Ford dealer.
Fortunately it was paid for under an extended warranty I had purchased with the truck, but, the total invoiced cost was $2500 (I had to pay $200) which also included a new water pump too.
There is no reason to lift the body off the frame to service the timing chain.

Can I do anything? They want $1500 to put it back together without the repair.

Im surprised they didnt contact you before removing the body off the frame lol, like at most you should have been told what kind of diagnostics would be involved not just charge 1500$ what a bunch of crooks, good luck

Hire a lawyer or at least threaten litigation. I just looked up the procedure in the 2013 Ford shop manual and cab removal is not part of that repair.

Not sure of the laws in your state, but in Ohio, the dealer needs to provide you with the cost of the diagnostic fee at the time of the service. anything above that fee, must be approved by you before they proceed. If they provided you with the $1,500 amount at the time you dropped off the truck, and you signed the paperwork, then you are on the hook for it, if they did not, then they cannot hold your truck hostage.

Well, that's in Ohio, might be very different in your state, good luck.

Rnlcomp nailed it, there's no reason to remove the body for a timing chain. Go at them with that knowledge and threaten to get a lawyer involved if they don't put your truck back together. I'd also go look at your truck and a picture of that crack in the exhaust...if the metal isn't corroded that means they probably cracked it.
