6 mos 2000 miles...oil change yay or nay?

2013 5.0..last oil change 11/19/2018. 2k miles since then. All local stop and go. Changing oil waste of money or cheap insurance?

Cheap insurance and peace of mind if it's what you want to do!

Waste if you ask me. Once a year or 5k is what I do.

Just traded in a 2014 Mustang GT with 29K miles. I changed the oil 4 times in the 5 years I owned it (every 6K miles). Same schedule I've used on every gas powered vehicle I have owned for the last 20+ years. My 2002 F150 is right at 200K miles, never had the engine opened and burns less than a quart of oil between 6000 mile oil changes.

Something I read about oil filters years ago, don't know if it's true but it seemed to make sense. It said oil filters are most efficient after they have been in use for a while as the pores begin to close up from debris filtered out of the oil. A brand new filter is not as effective as one that has been in service for 1500 miles or so. As long as there is still plenty of flow, there is absolutely no reason to change out that filter just as it is reaching peak efficiency. All this stuff is designed with specific life expectancy guidelines. Your imagination is not better at determining oil and filter life than the people who originally designed them.

Agree, complete waste. Even without the Oil life meter, I would wait until 6-7k kms.

5k miles whether it needs it or not regardless of time. Overkill especially using full synthetic as I do but it's a good round number and a reminder to also rotate the wheels and put an eyeball on the brakes etc....
.

5,000 miles is when I change oil in my truck. I need not worry about going over 12 months. I put too many miles on the truck to worry about time. I have always used 10W-30 Motorcraft Syn Blend oil.

I will add the main reason I have always changed the oil at 5k miles is I consider my usage as a level higher higher than normal. I currently have 71,800+ miles on the truck, and more than 60% of those miles have been towing. So out of caution, I change sooner than what is recommended as normal by Ford, and sooner than what the computer on the truck says is necessary.

I do 10K or 1 year.
