Ford Sync Question

Ford Sync Question
I’m not sure if this is the correct area for this topic, but I currently have a 2012 FX4 with the original Microsoft Sync system. Does anyone know if I can remove my current system and install a new system with the newest sync system?

If you remove LOTS of stuff, yes. Easier would be to install an aftermarket system.

Ok here goes.... I use a Mac so some apps will be different for windows machines....
- first make sure your vin is correct on the ford owner site
- get a empty usb stick ( I used a 64gb but you can probably use a much smaller one) make sure it is formatted to fat32 - you can confirm this with disk utility on a Mac. If it is not fat32, you will format using the erase function on disk utility - chose the fat options.
- then go to software updates on the ford owner site and get to the download page
- download the software package (try to download it to the usb stick directly then you won’t have to move it)
- go to the usb stick and unzip the file...that will unpack a folder to your stick.
- delete the zip file
- move all the files in the folder to the top level (aka not in a folder) and delete the folder ( there should be no more folders at this point)
- remove the following “syncmyride/“ from all the file names ... this can be done by the rename function
- right click on the autoinstall file and open with text editor, remove all instances of syncmyride/ save and close
- right click on the install file and open with text editor, remove all instance of syncmyride/ save and close
- you’re done with the modifications. Eject usb and head to ur truck
- start ur truck and leave it in park with the brake on
- I suggest you do a master reset on the sync to eliminate any potential problems...also make sure ur phone is not paired with sync.
- Then press phone button, scroll to return, press ok,
- insert usb
- scroll to advanced setting, press ok, scroll to install application, press ok twice.
- the install process should begin
- it will reboot and mine took about 5-10 minutes. There is no progress indicator but it will say install complete at the end — I didn’t trust that so I let it a number of minutes after that message to make sure nothing else was going to install.
- that should do it ... I wrote this up from memory so I might be off in a couple of spots especially the sync navigation.
Good luck
