6.2 litre how to get more power?

I've got a 2014 F150 limited and absolutely love my truck. I love the 6.2 but would love to add a few more horses to it- should be even more fun to drive!!!
What have you guys found that worked for you?? What didn't??

I did think of supercharger but a whipped 2.9 installed with exhaust was pushing $15,000 so backed away.

Chip it??

Exhaust??

Air intake??

Any other ideas. Thanks all

All three would be your best bet. A exhaust and intake with out a tuner just makes weird A/f ratios. And the engine won't know what to do with the added breathing. A tuner by itself is ok but is better with some mods to work with. But you wont see the gains like a supercharger with out actually doing a supercharger.

Just my experience. But you will probably get all kinds of feedback soon.

A new Raptor?

Blackbiter 07-07-2015 10:18 PM

Does the 6.2 only come in the Raptor ? or can you order it in the f 250

Procharger Stage 2 with custom tunes. Way less than the 2.9 whipple. Lol. Still expensive as hell.

The only way to get a 6.2 now (2015+) is in the Super Duty's. They do not come in the F150's anymore.

Like you, I'd like just a little more...

I did install a full OEM Raptor cat-back which breathes better than what FoMoCo equipped non-Raptor 6.2L trucks plus sounds nice too. I chose that over aftermarket 'cus I have little tolerance for droning at highway speeds. As to aftermarket CAI, my thinking is that they add little if any at rpms most trucks are driven plus typically add intake "honk". No thanks...

As to tuners, I spent time in the Ford Raptor Forum in the 6.2L engine performance section reading all pertinent thread posts on specific tuner suppliers and results reported by forum members. From that, my 1st choice would have been SVC's "The Tune", however in the end opted not to go that route at all with concerns of voiding my powertrain warranty. SVC's tune (maybe others too) seems fairly moderate by avoiding harsh shift points while (so-stated) maintaining all FoMoCo engine protection control limits vs achieving maximum performance tuning by shutting off those safeguards. Even so, my truck is nearly a full year old yet has only rolled 3475 total miles. Hey, its not a daily driver. Yes, call me Mr Conservative if you like... :D

JDM tuning, an AFE intake which just makes noise but sounds good, stainless works long tubes with no cats and a mbrp 3.5" catback. It's okay for now. I have to add my Stiffler long bars, Yukon axle shafts, TA performance cover and decide whether I will just hot wire the locker and see how long it lasts or drop in the Detroit locker I have. I want to mod the exhaust too as right now it drops from 3" dual to 3" single.... I want a custom Y pipe to go 3" dual in and 4" single out and just get an Ecoboost 4" catback behind that.

Once that's done... billet oil pump gears with a 2.9 Whipple and more JDM tuning. Give their 700 hp package a whirl. If that pops the bottom end. .LS swap it lol. It honestly would probably be cheaper than forging a Ford 6.2. Any engine parts for this junk is ridiculous to buy to the point of not even being worth it.

2013 FX4 157" wb SCrew. I have a 145" WB XLT SCab that is 6.2 powered and I am not sure what I will do with it once I retire it from my company. I thought keep it but honestly probably sell it as modding them is worth more than the truck is. I can build a forged LS with a blower for what vendors charge for heads, cams and headers for these.... pass.

I have an '11 Lariat supercrew 4x4 with the 6.2, max tow and 3.73LS gears. I ordered her in Oct. of '10. She was awesome right out of the gate. The first thing I did performance wise, was I ordered a Volant cold air intake kit. Once it arrived and I opened the box, I wasn't sure how it would perform. The intake tube was nice, but the airbox had a huge hole that exposed the filter to hot air from under the hood. But I put it on. Sure enough it Suc*ed. It was loud, I lost performance and mpg. Sounds odd I know but it did. So I yanked the airbox but left the intake tube. It was nice. I took the stock airbox and modified it for more air flow and put it back in with a regular filter. Much Better! The next mod was to order the Stainless Works Long tube headers, High flow cats with X-pipe, and the full dual exhaust system with the chambered mufflers. Wow! That took a beast and made it really bad. Then I bought a SCT Livewire from 5 Star with three of their custom tunes. That made the truck truly nasty. I now have performance and Tow tunes from 5 Star and MPT and am very happy with my truck. She has about 52,000 miles on her and everytime I hop in her it's a joy....

6.2 litre how to get more power?

Here my 2011 f1 with just a tune by 5 star muffler delete with resonator and just a drop in k&n filter and it's a blast to drive I go thru tires but that's ok lol she scoots pretty good

Steelhead 6.2 07-08-2015 12:59 AM

1-3/4 longtube headers, Borla S-type catback, Air-raid CAI and throttle body. Put it all together with a nice tune of your choice. ( I went with 5star sctx4 flash) A very noticeable HP increase. anywhere from 50-60 hp gains.(just guessing here on my own personal research)I left the OEM resonator on this set up and it was still plenty loud.

Switched to an 1-7/8 long tubes by stainless works and the low end torque was nowhere near as good. Still screamed, but the drone was terrible and put the OEM resonator back on and was still pretty loud. If I was to do it again I would stick to the smaller LT's.

Of course , now, I have a roush stage 2 supercharged 2013 Limited and that is the ultimate power gain. A whole different beast and I love it. I am looking to improve that 590 hp to 650-700 with aftermarket upgrades. It's plenty fast! mustang fast!
