Hmm, they didn't ask that when I got my tunes from them a while back, and at the time they were unable to give me a tune that would pass emissions without also taking away all the benefits of a tune. The emissions tune I got from them was obviously a stock calibration file.

My 170* thermostat 87 octane Perf/Tow will pass emissions testing. No loss in performance. Only slight loss of city mpg. Very satisfied overall with their tunes.

True, I know their 87oct perf/tow tunes will pass, but their 91 and 93oct perf/tow would not at the time I got them.

Be sure to log your tunes and check your knock sensor values, even when running 93oct on their 87 tune I still had noticeable knock timing retard. Running 87 on the 87 tune on a WOT run the knock retard climbed up to 9 degrees by 3500RPM at which point I lifted not wanting to know how much more it would climb.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was false knock, especially running 93 on a 87 tune. Also especially if you didn't hear detonation getting that high of KR.
Either way I would log it and send it to them, they could tell you for sure and make adjustments if necessary.

All my earlier 87 tunes would not pass emissions. It wasn't till I got the 170* tunes that I inquired about tweaking. I only have my daily driver tune (Perf/Tow) tweaked for emissions testing. It's my "set it and forget it" tune. My Perf only helps some with highway mpg, but I don't do much of that and leave it as is.

I will do some data logging with laptop software, so that I can view more parameters than SCT. Wish I'd did some timing data logs before the t-stat/tune switch for comparison.
I also have a 170* tune (no emissions tweak) that I hadn't loaded. I could possibly try it and compare notes. I like what I have now and don't know if it's worth the trouble. I did the cooler stat mainly for towing and will be staying with it, regardless.

It wasn't false knock, it was worst on 87oct and got better with octane increases. The fact that it responded to increases in octane means it's real. Logging and adjustments were a pain with them, because Jacob wasn't very knowledgeable when it came to making a emissions compliant tune and was very condescending to me, Price was professional, but they also want 3rd gear pulls which mean going to a dyno for every log or doing pulls to 120mph on the street. This is dangerous or inconvenient at best.

In any case all I was saying is that some of the tunes from 5 Star are not emissions compliant, so check and find out if your is if it's not setting monitors. I also just wanted to remind people of the importance of data-logging and checking their new tunes, just saying it feels good isn't good enough.

Bump, I'm having an issue downloading the .cef tune files to upload to my programmer. What software did you all use? It's a windows device.

I called all the support numbers and they're closed on weekends.

I downloaded the emailed attachment using Windows 8.1 and saved to a file. I, then, uploaded to the programmer using SCT Device Updater 2.9.16049.1
I don't recall now, but I am pretty sure I had to follow the procedure in this pdf to update my SCT Driver for it to work properly. http://www.5startuning.com/wp-conten...ers-How-to.pdf

Thanks. I believe my SCT driver is good. I just can't seem to save the google drive file they sent to my laptop.
