I had a 02 screw with a 5.5 bed and narrow tailgate and absolutely hated it, even with bed extender. But I have always had a toolbox in the bed too, which left a 3.5 x 4ft cargo area on my 02. When I upgraded to my 12 this summer, I wouldnt even look at the 5.5 trucks. I haul stuff all the time in my bed, and I am usually the one friends call to haul stuff for them. Its a lot nicer pulling our 30ft camper with the longer wheel base too.
