Ford had the notion to put the 5.4 in the Super Duty's..you won't be seeing that with the 5.0. The 5.4 ain't the most powerful but it gets the job done in most regards. I like mine.

new 5.0 has 360 hp
old 5.4 has 300 hp
that alone should decide for you
(sorry off the top of my head I can't think of the torque difference but its just as crazy)

5.4 360ft/tq @ 3500
5.0 380ft/tq @ 4250

My guess the 5.0 has a much better power ban.

The 5.4 has 310HP at 5000 rpm and 360 fp torque at 3500 and the 5.0 is 360HP at 5500rpm and 380 at 4250. the 5.0 has better numbers and it should it's a new motor, no one really knows if it's a good motor only time will tell... the 5.4 has been a good motor It's time has come and gone,so the new kid on the block is the 5.0 hopefilly it's a good motor or the bitching will start soon...

What a expert opinion from such an expert.

There is nothing wrong with the 5.4'as it has been a great motor for years. The 5.0 has also been around for a while. I believe it really depends on what you plan to use your truck for as well as what kind of deal you can get on the 2010. Both are good options.
I do consider myself an expert since I'm A. and engineer, and B. I had one. Not a bad motor, but compared to the 5.0, it's a heavy inefficient lump. Just the way it goes with progress. No need to get your panties in a bunch

wow for an "engineer" you have horrible grammar and sentence structure skills.

Ford Engineer? I mean I am a Network "engineer" but that doesn't make me an expert on Ford motors

what 5.0? mustang or you have the new F150 with the NEW 5.0?

not to call you out but you are an engineer so..... splain'

Unless you are a Ford engineer and involved in the R&D of both motors, I do not consider you an expert. You now claim the 5.4 as being "Not a bad motor". In the same sentence "a heavy inefficient lump". Previously a POS . I do not take offense to your post. Everyone has their own opinion. I just found it out of context to the OP question. I believe both motors have some advantages and disadvantages. Calling one a POS is a bit of a stretch. I also have had both motors. I have not had the 5.0 in the F150 though as it just came out. Take it that you have not either unless you just bought one. That being he case what is your experience with the 5.0'in the F150?

I had a 2000 f150 with the 5.4 in high school and it was and still is an awesome truck. I put that truck through hell and it always came back asking for more. One time I sank it in a sand pit up to the Ford logo, and all I did was change the oil. 80k miles later my dad is still using it to pull his bass boat. The motor is pretty much bullet proof. With that being said I ended up going with the 5.0 in my new truck. I just couldn't turn down the extra power and new technology. The 5.0 pulls my boat better than my 5.4 did and it has a lot more passing power on highways. Not sure how much the new transmission has to do with the better performance, but their is very noticeable power gains. Time will tell if the 5.0 will be able to take the abuse I put it though like the 5.4 did, but it was worth the gamble to me. Don't think you can go wrong with either one they are both Ford products!

Why does everybody like to pull out the engineer card? Doesn't impress me any.
