5.4 vs 5.0
I will respond having owned a 2005 with the 5.4 and a 2013 with the 5.0, both engines are cared for the same, with regular maintenance and change intervals.
After having the 5.4 I would not wish that motor on my worst enemy. It had continuous misfires with new cops and plugs, its gas mileage sucked, 10-12 no matter how I drove, city highway mixed didn't matter. Its tick is ridiculous, couldn't hear **** at drive thru windows, it idled rough, and it didn't have the power the 5.0 has or the git up and go that the 5.0 has
I have owned a 2013 5.0 for about 10K miles now. It runs excellently, has unreal power compared to the 5.4 I traded in on it. So far at 35K miles no misfires, perfectly smooth idle, cant even feel it running most of the time. Its MPG is considerably better than my 5.4, the 5.0 I have gets 13-15 city and up to 20 on the highway calculated, 15-17 mixed.
If I had to do it over again I never would have bought the 5.4, from about 6 months after I made the buy I could not wait for it to be time to trade it in. I put way too much money into that truck, mainly in the front portion of the truck, (cops, plugs, throttle body, 4x4 solenoid, 4x4 actuators, it burned oil, about 2 qts per change)
Go with the 5.0 over the two and dont look back in my opinion

Stock? 5.0.
Modified? Remains to be seen.

Easy answer. BOTH. I don't have a 5.0, but have had a 5.4. I have an ecoboost right now. I think if the 5.4 has a good gear ratio (I had an fx4 w/3.73s) it doesn't feel quite as noticeable on the power difference between the 2. I'm a ford fanboy though. As long as it has a blue oval, it can't be bad right?

Miserable slow revving bastard! I'd give anything to wipe those 7 years from my memory.
The 5.0 is what I wanted 11 years ago, when I first heard it had 300 HP.
Side note; the addition of the 6 speed was a game changer, and doesn't apply to my comments above.
