Default 5.4 vs 5.0

Hello all, I just bought a 2012 f150 with the 5.0, and while i love it, I need another truck. I don't want to go spend another 40 grand on a brand new one, so what differences am i going to notice between driving an 09-10 5.4, and my 2012 5.0? I don't tow much (~3000LBS) But the 5.4 will mainly have mountain duty (I need to get up and down a snow covered mountain pass daily) so my questions;

1)How is the 5.4 powered compared to the 5.0? I know the 5-oh has 60 more horsepower blah blah blah, but i want some personal experiences of people who have driven both
2) I need a shorter wheel base, as this will most likely be used on trails a fair bit, so i'm looking for a regular cab short box 4x4. Do they even make this specific group of options? And if so, what would a 09-10 with less than 50k miles run me? I'm located in South west british columbia (Canada), but i'm willing to head south to WA or OR to buy one.

Thanks!

Don't get why you're wanting to buy both?

But since you asked, the 5.4 is a towing motor as opposed to the 5.0 being more of a go-fast motor (for lack of better words). The 5.4 makes it's power down low with more torque and the 5.0 makes it's power up high with more hp. The 5.0 gets better mpg by a bit but not earth shattering. Both seem to be dependable.

As for prices, check a site like edmunds. They seem to be pretty good for that.

Although my 5.4 was one of the first from 1997, I had it since nearly new. My new 5.0 smokes it easily.

You do realize there is a great amount of difference between the first 5.4s and the body they were put in and the 09-10 5.4s and the body they were put in? For the most obvious: 2V vs 3V and 4 speed vs 6 speed transmissions. They are completely different beasts.

Sorry, I should of explained more... My '12 is the daily driver and summer toy hauler, The 09-10 will be more of a truck i use for work (not a dedicated work truck) And i'll use it for the occasional off road fun. But mostly, It'll be used for hauling around fairly bulky but relatively light stuff for work, and mtn duty.

I would think your 5.0 would be able to handle that but if you've got the money, by all means, go ahead.

The 5.0 is more than capable, But i don't want to use my personal vehicle for work. Especially not a brand new truck.

That's why I said it was an older one, but I see your point. My post was useless for him
