I asked what Our 2008 Scab FX4 would be worth on a trade, and just ball parl figure was 23,000.00 My salesman said if it went through the shop I possibly get 1-2 more G's out of it, Id look for a demo or get your sales guy to look.....just compare the difference you might be surprised, I know I was thats why I bought a new Screw Isaved over 14,000.00 plus another 1500.00 off PDI and doc fee's waved, and all accessories I put on went through there shop cost wise and I got them at dealer cost......and 2 different compaies did the accessories......so I didn't go any further as i was looking a for used one and they held there value.

Try an auction or talk to a broker who deals in auctions and they might find you a good used one.....I looked into that when i was looking for a F250 diesel....

Good Luck!

True story. Farm auctions are a gold mine.

I been saying all along, Should make a DOHC 32 valve 5.4 liter coyote engine with twin turbos!!!!! That solves that.

Test drove a few 09-10' 5.4L trucks before deciding to buy new, To me the 5.4L and the 5.0L felt very similar in around town power/below ~3000rpm, actually I'd say the 5.4L felt a touch better around town. Drop the hammer and its a different story, both pulled about the same up to 3000-3500rpm where the 5.0L felt like it hit a power band and accelerated harder where the 5.4L seem to just keep accelerating at the same pace. Rear wheel dynos show it too, the 5.4L makes 10-15# more torque below 3000rpm then the 5.0L passes and out torques the 5.4L all the way to redline (which is close to 1000rpm higher than the 5.4L)

The 5.4L that was in the GT500 was a 32 valve. Some guy dropped one in a supercrew F150, something like 650rwhp:

Gonna bump an old thread... Finally getting back around to buying another truck... Buying used... Looking for XLT Captain, crew cab 4x4.

I am leaning 5.0 but if the right truck comes along with 5.4, I wouldn't mind that either...

How is the feeling for both these engines lately??

Thanks!

I've owned both, I had nothing but problems with my 5.4. It had the dreaded cam phaser issues. Personally, I'll never buy another 5.4, but a lot of folks have had great experiences with them.

I've owned both too, my suggestion would be to get the 5.0. My 5.4 was in a 2009 4X4, while the engine was OK with regards to performance, the cam phaser noise that was starting to develop drove me nuts. Off idle in mud with 4X4 engaged always seemed to make the cam phaser problem worse, and it would sound like it was going to fly apart (or a bad running diesel).

It's a crap shoot whether you'll have that problem with the 5.4, never seen it on the 5.0, I also really like the upper midrange RPM power band of the 5.0.

That's my .02

EDIT: Forgot to mention, my 5.4 was a real gas hog (11 ~ 14 mpg depending on use). In this old thread on page 2 you'll see my comments from 2012 regarding my 5.4, after living with it for a couple more years and having some problems, my opinion has changed a bit.
