5.4 engine whistle, squeal, whine, etc.
Hi all
2009 5.4L 32,000 miles FX4
I am I experiencing a squeal in my 5.4 over the last couple of days. I hear it while in park, acceleration, and in between gear changes. After accelerating it will stop for a moment, but again, it does it when the truck is parked, so it's not just a throttle issue.
I have purchased the extended warranty but I don't know if that will cover this, or at least having it looked at. I've searched threads but I can't find something quite like what I'm experiencing.
Anyone know what this could be? Thanks!

I'd love to be able to help out a fellow flareside owner, but, with 44,000 on the clock, I have yet to have an issue.
The only thing I can think of that sometimes gives a whistle is an exhaust leak at the manifold. Or possibly a head gasket. Neither is good to have, but that's what I would look for.
PS: I'll be posting more pics soon with my new tires that I had put on a week ago.

Is it a whine, or a whistle though? Check the alternator too- water in it can make it squeal like a stuck pig until you tear it down and rebuild it.

I think more of a whine than a whistle. I haven't lost performance, but this is happening whether its 30 degrees or 65 degrees too if that helps.
I've never had to take anything to a dealer for repair. Will they charge me to just listen and look?
I was fearing a head gasket, just didn't want to hear it from someone else. what would that run me for a repair?

Another thing I just thought of is the power steering pump. My wife's Honda Pilot had this horrible whine that changed pitch with the throttle and when turning the steering wheel.
It made more noise, the colder the outside temp got. (fluid got thicker) But it was still always there, at all temperatures.
