I've never had an oil consumption problem with my truck. I know it will suck a lot through the crank case. I have a catch can and I probably get over 6 oz. of oil in there over a 5k mile period but my oil level has stayed the same.

I don't know about the frozen north but in the lower 48 you can go on line to the ford owners web site and download the works coupon which offers full service for between $30 and $40 bucks US. you might look into a Canadian counter part.
