I think you mean a lower gear ratio. Larger number ='s lower gear ratio. A lower gear ratio will increase your RPMs while a higher ratio will lower your RPMs. The ratio is how many times the pinion gear turns before the ring gear makes one full revolution. 3.33 means the pinion gear turns 3.33 times for every 1 time the ring gear turns. 4.56 means the pinion gear turns 4.56 times for every 1 time the ring gear turns. Obviously it will take more RPMs in any given (transmission) gear to turn a 4.56 ratio than it would a 3.33 ratio.
