Purpose. We fight over which is better, the 3.7,EB, 5.0, or 6.2. We even discuss this with our own selves when we are deciding on what new ford truck to get. It keeps us busy. Instead of fighting over what truck is better. Ford, Chevy, Ram, Tundra, Titan, and so on. Yup.

I`ve had the opportunity to own both the 5.0 and the Ecoboost.
Here are some of my thoughts..
5.0- I like the v-8 growl and the smooth shifting. Always felt like I was running in 4-low with ecoboost. Doesn`t have the rocket launch accelerating that ecoboost has but appears to opperate better above 3500 rpm.
Ecoboost-0-60 performer, quiet and pulls like a Mack truck.
I pull a 6,000 lb. load each day and either engine is quite capable.
Mileage is almost identical. Can`t go wrong with either.
Might I ad I`ve had no mechanical failures with either.

There both awesome. Drive both see which one you like. Also, see which you can get a better deal with. The difference in MPG and power isn't that big. I would have been happy with either two. I just got a good deal on my ECO, It was a left over 2011 that I bought in 2012. I am very happy with my ECO and never had any kind of problem.
