5.0 v8 or ecoboost?

God This argument is un-winnable. Both engines are superb choices and I'd chose either one. On my next truck I'd probably choose the 5.0, due to my 11mpg fuel economy. I hate idiots that complain about 18mpg, but 11 is just ridiculous. I've tried premium fuel, additives, driving slower than a dead senior and all different brands of fuel. No issues that the dealer could find. Other than that, I love the ecoboost! I miss the v8 growl every time I hear a 5.0 with a magnaflow. But I get over it when I dustpan subarus at the lights.
I'm sure a 5.0 with a 3.73 and a tune/exhaust would have it at Eco territory and probably better mileage too. If it was my call, save a G note and put it towards the superb nav system.

While anything is possible, there is no reason to think that the ecoboost engines can't go a few hundred thousand miles. VW's 1.8t was the mainstay of VW/Audi for a long time and those engines could go 300,000+ without opening the motor. If Ford built them right, and time will tell, then these engines should do just as well. I think a lot of people either figure that these are the American turbo engines of the 80's, that were poorly designed and had lousy oil flow to cool them(I.e. Dodge Daytona Turbo), or they figure that if you flog a turbo engine it will die(as if the guys in the A4s and GTI's don't flog theirs.) I don't know if this engine can handle 15 years of abuse, but I aim to find out.
When I started looking, this lady I work with told me point blank that I needed the 6.2 if I was even thinking about towing horses, and she recommended the F250 power stroke diesel. This was without knowing anything about the EB except That it was a V6.

Purpose. We fight over which is better, the 3.7,EB, 5.0, or 6.2. We even discuss this with our own selves when we are deciding on what new ford truck to get. It keeps us busy. Instead of fighting over what truck is better. Ford, Chevy, Ram, Tundra, Titan, and so on. Yup.

But we all know, the best engine is the one you buy, doesn't even matter which one it is ;-)

i have 5.0 fx4 crew. mileage sucks 16k miles avg lifetimempg is 12.6. mixed driving. i have tried to get better- going 55 down the road and resetting to see what current is. cannot get better than 17 going that slow.
with that said i pull a 4k boat and 20 ft trailer with atvs and it pulls hard and mileage pulling i can live with. 11.5 at 70-75 mph!

I don't know about you but I sure wouldn't trust someone who makes their first post all about discouraging you from getting an Ecoboost. It's a great engine and not anymore problems than other engines have. Get what you want based on your test drive and what you'll be using it for.
I am not trying to discourage him from an ecoboost but rather helping him make an informed decision. The ecoboost has some bugs that still need to be worked out. here are some links to show that i'm not the only one who has had to deal with it.

above is what i experienced, the same dreaded P3060 code, misfire on cylinder 6. Ford is supposably working on it and its hit or miss on whether which trucks will experience it or not. I had my truck one year and when i traded it in i had 45k miles on it, It's my rolling office, i cant afford to have it in the shop which is why i went with the 5.0. the second time instead of another ecoboost. The ecoboost is a good motor but still needs some work from ford to get the kinks worked out. As i stated, he has a tough decison to make. I miss the whine of the turbos, gobs of torque but the growl of the V8 puts a grin on my face every time I hear it.
