5.0 towing 6500lb tt
Towing through the Appalachian mountains in VT an Maine
I was hoping for better but I think the 3.55 rear and 60mph really hurt the overall trip.
I had it up to 75mph dragging 29' of tt, no tail wag but faster = less mpg.

aside from the mpg, how did the 5.0 do towing that kind of weight? I have no doubt that the "truck" handles the weight just fine, but the 5.0's lack of bottom end torque worries me a bit when towing on the upper end of its capabilities. just curious what your experience was like in the mountains?

I don't think thats bad at all, not at 75MPH!!! My 2011 F350 averaged 11.7 at that speed, similar weight @ 30-40 cents a gallon more! Before that I had an 07 Tundra 5.7 it averaged between 9-10mpg same trailer... I found that 60-63mph was the sweet spot on both those trucks, yet to tow with my new 150.

You must of had a nice tail wind with that kinda number.
With our TT 6000# loaded it got 10.8 cruising at 60-64. Next day drove faster, maybe 70mph had a bit of wind too, but got 8.5 mpg
all according to the display on the truck.
XLT crew 145", 4x4, ecoboost with max tow
Sorry just re-read you were at 60, with a little bit of 75 ... My appologies, seems about right from what I've heard others say

There were times in the mountains I had 2end gear at 3500rpm.
Overall I was happy with power/performance and MPG achieved.
I am pretty sure 3.73 gears would have helped significantly.

That's not that bad but not good either. Everybody driving a 5.0 (maybe not you) is saying that they get so much better mileage than EB while towing.
I did the Green and the White Mountains towing an almost 8000lb 5th wheel at 65mph. I got 10mpg and my truck never used the 3rd gear for the whole trip... Not even once.
My previous Nissan Frontier towing 4000lbs got the same mileage... So bottom line is towing with anything will get you "poor mileage", even with a 5.0. This is just normal.
Enjoy the rest of the camping season!
Cheers

With the 5.0 people just have to get used to the idea of letting it rev. 3500rpms or more is no big deal, where 10 yrs ago if u tried to run 3500rpms or more under load all day with a V8 u would have issues.

I think that's pretty good for that much weight and speed. Some people shy away from the 5.0 because it likes to rev, but its designed to work in the higher rpm's so let her rev away.
