5.0 tick vs lock
Posted 2011+ engine forum.. but I figured it is better suited here..
Im sure this is the 300000 post on this but i am having trouble finding what im looking for..
I am currently looking at a 2011 XLT 5.0. its got 72k on the clock. After doing some research on the engine I know its had its issues. From what I understand ti seems that there is a typical 5.0 tick and then there's a KNOCK( caused by oblong cylinders - ultimately requiring a new engine). Am I correct in my understanding of this?? If so how do you distinguish between the the two sounds? With the number of miles on this truck am I in the clear with regard to the oblong cylinder issue - would the engine have prematurely failed by this point? I'm a newbie when it comes to all of the engine stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Very few engines failed. People had them replaced due to noises.
