Mine is definitely a tick and not a knock, and only does it when hot. I was listening to it again with the stethoscope and it seems to be loudest right near the header flange going to the cat. Water pump, pulleys, and everywhere else on the heads are quiet internally.

I'm sure if it's the oblong cylinder thing going on even with that many miles there has to be fuel mixing in with the oil hopefully they will resolve the issue before long I'm just not prepared to have a truck that sounds like this for what I payed for the truck

Dealer says they were able to reproduce it as mine was intermittent and they replaced the PCV valve and have not reproduced the issue since. I hope it was that simple...

Dealer still saying they can't hear the noise went and picked my truck up and another service manager listed to my truck and said oh I hear a faint noise or taping so I ask your not a mechanic and you can hear something why couldn't the mechanic hear it so we're at it has to get worse before we can do anything and also have not heard anything from the Ford people that hang out on here Evan though I have sent them a pm so I guess the battle will continue

My 13 has had the 5.0 tick since the day I bought. It dealer addressed it as "normal." No issues so far

Well I would like to say tick but sometimes it also sounds like a knock to so I at lest think Ford should step up to the plate and do something about it there are to many people that have had the same issue and Ford ended up having to put a motor in there trucks

My truck has made this noise since about 15k miles, now at 45k plus. I guess I'll just roll the dice and see how it goes. With my mods it would be a lot of work to get back to stock and hope at that point that FORD would do something about it.

After reading your post about the PCV I pulled the connection on the valve cover while the truck was running, and to my surprise the truck stalled out and low oil pressure message was on dash.
I did't expect the truck to stall, but anyways I put it back on and started my truck back up and the tick was gone and hasn't returned after 750 miles. I am not sure why and can't explain it and some probably won't believe it(I sure didn't at first). But she is whisper quiet now and if my tick return's I will post, keeping my fingers crossed.
