5.0 oil consumption?
How much oil usage is normal for a new 5.0?
3300 miles and it's below the add line. Was right at full at 5, 150 and just below full at 800 miles.
I'm not going to deal w another motor that uses a quart per 1k miles like my gm 5.3.

People say it's normal but I haven't noticed mine using any at all.
I also don't have the black carbon build up on tip like others either. Have had the resonator deleted for 20K miles and tuned for 25K and never had black soot on my tip.
About 2K miles ago I reinstalled the resonator and replaced the OEM muffler with a Banks Monster Muffler and still no black soot.

start by putting in 1/2 qt. and see where it shows up on the dipstick. next put the other 1/2 in. just make sure you are on level ground. when i change my oil myself, have since new putting 7.5 qts my oil level is dead in the middle of safe. i know it takes 7.7 qts, a couple of ounces is not going to make a difference. just change your oil to what Ford suggests 5-20w blend, rings may not have seated good. some suggest to wait to 10k miles before switching full synthetic. this is what i did, other say it doesn't matter. I quess I am just old school.

I may just change it and put in exactly 7.7 and mark the stick to true full. Start there and see what happens. Hard to base line not knowing how much exactly was there to start.
No soot on tip here either. 100% stock. I have a bunch of things to do to it but want to make sure there aren't any problems before I start voiding warranties.

Five-0 Ret.
I own two 5.0's, and both have been spot on at every check. I wouldn't worry to much. Good idea to change the oil, and keep a check. Hopefully it will stop. Good luck.
I was gonna say make sure the truck is level when you check. But I've been in Texas, and everything is flat in Texas. Oh, 'cept a few nice looking Cowgirls I saw.

practically speaking, I haven't lost a drop from day one. I have almost 10K miles on my truck in about 9 months, and oil levels are holding perfectly. I changed the oil first time at about 2500 miles, switched to Mobil 1 full syn + Mobil 1 filter, and am about to change it again.
If you are losing oil, it's either due to a slow leak or your engine is burning it - neither of which is good. Get the truck checked out to see which is happening.
