Default 5.0 knocking noise

I just wanted to post that Ford authorized replacing my shortblock for the knocking noise that I had in my 5.0. It is a 2013 with 55,000 miles. They said that it is because of a defective cylinder bore that has become out of round and caused piston slap knocking. The warranty work was easy to initiate. I brought it in with the noise and they investigated it with a stethoscope and then took off the valve covers to take pictures and Ford authorized the shortblock replacement. I have not gotten the truck back yet but so far I have had a good experience with this. It is the only thing I have brought it in for. it was making a slight knock sound at idle only when warmed up. Just wanted to let you guys know.

Congratulations on being the 1%, most of us get told to **** off. Almost 20,000 miles later after trying to pursue a short block and failing, I totally forgot this was even a thing until I see it on here. I forgot mine even does it, plus the louder exhaust overpowers it.

Will they be using a reman block or new one?

Lol! Sad but true. He must have an excellent dealer and caught the engineers at the right time. I think it took me about a couple of years of documentation and then being persistent for about 6 months exercising patience. I'm glad someone was in the top 1%, He may want to advertise that dealership so others on here can make the drive, Lol

400k on my 2011 - no issues. Been knocking for 350k or so.

Have owned 3 other 5.0s - all knocked and again, no issues. If yours is knocking, I wouldn’t worry about it.

that is exactly what the dealer said," do not worry about it."

I brought my 2013 5.0 in with the same issue, had 3 recordings of the noise which was extremely easy to hear. One dealer finally replaced my cylinder head assembly under warranty and said that there were scorings and shavings in the oil. 1 month after the repair the noise returned. Haven't been able to get ford to take a look and they told the dealers to not authorize any more work on my truck. Worst part was, the radio crapped out around the same time so I was forced to listen to the knock. 52K miles and still there. Threw a can of restore in the oil and said a prayer....

Picked my truck up today. This warranty claim was a breeze. Ford did me right. Just wanted to document this on the forum.

So, what's the rest of this story?

The restore definitely helped compression because mpg increased about 2 mpg. Knock is still audible but not as bad, bought a new radio from a salvage yard for 70 bucks and use that to cover up the noise.
