4x4 banging

Ok so I have this straight- your having issues with 4H on pavement? I'm not going to pretend to be a know it all, but that's where the problem lies. Even if you think you're driving a straight line, you aren't. The wheels will always be at different angles or different speeds. This holds true for lockers as well. This can and will cause issues. Sometimes over time, sometimes immediately. Either way it's not a good idea.

Wait wait.... So u guys are saying that driving in 4h on dry pavement for a short period of time is wrecking and causing problems with the 4x4.... I will waive that bull**** flag....I have driven every 4x4 I've owned on 4h once a week for about an 1/8 mile stretch weekly ( if I havent been offroading) and 4l for a stretch of a couple houses monthly just to keep things moving.... I have never had a problem

Cwilliams29, you mention hearing the noise at low speeds. Does it slowly fade in noise level as you accelerate? Does the noise just all of a sudden stop once your going a certain speed? What kinds of speeds are we talking about?

The noise and feel is a violent binding or banging coming from the frontend. This is happening at about 30mph. It will keep binding anything over 30mph although I have not gone much faster.

Are you engaging the 4x4 while moving or stopped? I do not know that much about the newer 4x4 but could it be one of your hubs not engaging properly?
From my old 4x4 when I had the hubs apart I could easily see how you could get more of a grinding noise due to how the splines would engage. When I got the '94 I had to tear the hubs apart and file the splines to get them to slide together since they had just rubbed against each other instead of engaging like they should have.

I thought it was interesting to note that even though the manual states not to drive like this, it only warns it will cause excessive noise and tire wear. You would think it would warn you that you could damage components as well.
