Default 400 mile tow with new Ecoboost

Truck now has 900+ miles and feels like it's getting stronger. Pulled my 7.5'x27' (OAL is 31') snowmobile trailer approx 400 miles this weekend. Thursday was 15f and into a NW wind at 70 mph. Averaged less than 8 mpg. Not real happy. Today on the return trip it was 45f and had a SW wind. Averaged 8.5 mpg.

The other thing I'm not crazy about it how is even with the tow/haul mode engaged it drops 3-4 mph before it downshifts. My Duramax certainly had more power and was 3-4 mpg better. Since the fuel is $1 less per gallons it's about a wash. I was hoping this truck could get close to 10, especially since the trailer only weights 2k was was empty on the way over. It is a big wind grabber.

Now one caveat. I had the dealer put in a 2" Autospring level kit Wednesday. They screwed up an actuator so I was forced to pull the vacuum line and run with the hubs engaged all weekend. I'm not sure how much mileage you lose running this way. Transfer case was in 2WD. Dealer will be fixing the actuator Monday. I also had 275/70/18 Duratracs installed Wed, I'm sure they hurt the mileage a bit, but they are the same width and only 1" taller.

What are others seeing pulling their TT's or larger enclosed trailers? Loaded up this winter with 4 sleds and gear I'll be pulling 6k+ so I hope it doesn't drop anymore.

I came from a duramax as well. I agree with you on the mileage part. My duramax got way better mileage, loaded and unloaded. Very disappointed with that.

I do like the less maintenance, cheaper maintenance, and smoother ride...

That probably didn't help. When I lock in my manual hubs in on my Bronco and leave the TC in 2wd (just in case I need to shift to 4wd on the fly) my mileage tanks big time.

I've gotten the best MPG so far with my truck running in AWD which leaves the hubs engaged. I would not think they would pull much from your numbers.

The mpgs do get better with time.
Mine took about a 16,000km break in and they keep getting better.

My buddies 2011 ecoboost gets comparable mpgs to another buddies 2008? duramax when they go hunting.

Each year they switch who tows the TT.

Pretty much the same for me. 3.55's, 295/65/18's, tuned, I'm getting about 8.5 pulling my 8,500 lb TT and 12.0 - 12.5 pulling a 16' tandom flatbed with 3 4wheelers (maybe 3,500 lbs).

Have a 3-place Triton enclosed - running 80 mph on a trip out west last year got 8 mpg w/ 3.73 gears and 305/55R20 Duratracs. Pretty much embarrassed my friend and his Tundra pulling a two place. Got better mileage than him and didn't lose any power at elevation.

One thing that really helped mine pull grades and hills was a tune. Ran the Livernois 91 tow all winter pulling the trailer all over the country. Taking I-39 from central IL to the UP, there are only two hills that will make it will down shift to 5th. Otherwise the boost comes up in 6th gear and she grunts w/o losing speed.

Taking a break from 60 mph crosswinds in SE Wyoming...

My father in laws EB took a few thousand miles to really start to get good mileage. Give it time to break in.
