3rd windshield already!!!

Factory windshield had scratches in it that I didn't see right away so the dealer was a pain and I replaced it through insurance instead of messing with them. Now last week heading to the airport for vacation took a rock right near the rear view. Ahhhhh. Never had this much bad luck, i've only had it since October.

I had my truck a week before I had the first chip in the glass. The rock that hit it was tiny...surprised it did anything. Since then I have numerous chips in the glass. I am guessing that Ford saved money on the glass and is not putting as much lead (or whatever else it may be) into it.

I guess living in Alaska I've become immune to chips and windshield issues. I think mine has 4-5 chips, one I had fixed, another one I saw but got busy and never got fixed and it decided to crack.

So, now I have a beautiful crack across the bottom 1/3 of my windshield that goes all the way across. Will I replace it? Nope, its not obstructing my vision and I ignore it. Cops don't really care here, although we are moving in the next few months and I don't know what the laws are like in other states.

Around here unless its smashed to the point you can't see through it then its still fine to drive around with, lol.

Hahahaha. I always forget there are people out there that replace their windshield because of a single crack, but yeah, Alberta sounds the same as Alaska.
You get a chip/crack/whatever, you swear and be pissed off for a bit, you keep driving. Usually replace windshield every couple years as it gets sandblasted by sand and gravel on the roads and its hard to see when you are driving into the sun.

around here, you have to replace it for a crack or chip or you dont pass inspection...and if you get pulled over for any reason, they'll give you a ticket for the windshield too...

Scratches in your glass on first windshield? takes a lot to "scratch" glass..

In my neck of the woods, we normally replace our windshields more often than we have to renew our registration. In fact, my windshield has 3 or 4 chips and a nice crack across the bottom. Happened around December, 3 months after I bought the damn thing.

I, typically, just live with the chips and cracks until it starts to hinder visibility. Then I replace it at a local glass shop using cash, not insurance. I don't want to pay higher premiums to include glass coverage.

Yeah someone at the dealer cleaned the window with a diamond ring on and I didnt even notice it until I was heading down the highway one day and seen the half moon scratches on the passenger side. Guess I hate seeing imperfections on a new truck, if it was my 99 I could care less.

I got a pretty good crack the other day, second one since I got it...

My last truck never got one crack in 4 years. I'm thinking windsheild angle might make a difference

I got my first star chip a couple of weeks ago- a salt truck going the opposite way. It has always been from a vehicle driving in front of me. Took four months to get the first. I went ot a glass place and had it repaired b/c it started growing within the first hour of it happening. It cringes to make me think of that windshield being replaced. I'm 6ft 3 and it is hard enough getting the oil dipstick out for a check. Imagine them trying to get the cracked widshield out and a new one in. All I can picture is scratches all over the hood. Someone wake me up!! My wifes 11 Wrangler with the flat-in-your face perpendicualr windshield got the first chip about a month and half after purchase. I fixed that one myself. It was warm out and there was not a cloud in the sky- let the sun do its thing. If you do get scratches on your windshield, J C Whitney sells a glass polish kit. It consists of a diamond powder and a cotton when for your drill. I have a kit and it does work. I needed it afer I tried to quickly remove bird droppings from my windshield- you get the picture. It is amzing how strong a fingernail is through a paper towel with glass cleaner.
