Default 3rd bracklight replacement

Yes I have a leaker, Ford's changed the 3rd break light 5X's and even added some silicon as a temp fix and still water getting in. Tired of waiting for the cheap bastards to remake a thicker gasket and solve their problem. Here's the question : has anyone changed out their 3rd break light with a RECON Replacement?? Do they seal better than the OEM?

I have the recon brake light and although I didn't have a problem with the own light I've had no problems with the recon. The gasket around the light is pretty thick and the instructions suggest you use a bead of silicone around the seal when installing. Good luck

I changed mine with the Recon LED replacement.

Now mind you, I didn't have any leaking issues that I knew of and I changed it within the first month of owning the truck. With that said, the gasket on the Recon 'is' thicker than the OEM. What I also did to ensure that I wouldn't be plagued with any leaks, was to run a thin bead of clear silicon around the Recon light. Just enough to fill the gap between the body of the truck and the small lip of the rear of the plastic lens. I have had no problems. The light was installed last October and IMHO, the Recon LED is clearly brighter than the OEM.

I also have the Recon light. I had the truck for a year before changing it out and did not have any leaks before, or after. I did install the Recon light with a small bead of silicone on the thicker Recon gasket.

I've saw on one of the forums a picture of Fords new gasket. Its def much thicker. It also seems to be made from a different material from the original one also.

If your still getting a leak....maybe the leak is from somewhere else? like around the actual window? just throwing it out there....

Yea, if your putting silicone around it and its still leaking, then its either coming from somewhere else or you dont know how to apply silicone, which i find hard to believe as its pretty damn easy.

I have not attempted to fix. Due to the King Ranch rear leather seat being ruined twice and Ford having to replace it , I have let them deal with the leak. Even after their last attempt, which was to add silicon, the lense still shows water inside ( but not as bad ). The 2nd seat covers are in awaiting install, and after they are in on Ford's dime, I want to seal the problem myself. I know I can caulk it, but didn't want Ford to say I own the seats. It's $1500 a wack for them to do it each time. Am going with the Recon replacement and caulking myself.

I don't have a leak(knock on wood), but I was also thinking of replacing with the Recon for aesthetics purposes and an upgrade in light output. Not trying to hijack the post, but how does the Recon's light output compare to the OE?

check the bulbs , which im guessing you ve alreday tried , then you may have a slightly loose connection on the rear light loom connection , try gently closing up the ports on the plug , and also look for any evidence of corrosion / water ingress.

Is there any evidence of a dent or misformed body panel up there where the lamp is attached to the cab? All it would take is a slight dip and the water would run right "under" a gasket. Even so, you would think a bead of silicone would certainly solve this problem.

Could the water be coming in from elsewhere, such as a moonroof, or rear window?
