Default 36 gallon fuel tank for a fx2

Hello guys,

I been looking for info regarding swapping the 26 gallon tank for a 36. all the post I have seen are from 2011 or so. has anyone does the swap? It appears to be a direct bolt on with the only issue been the Miles to Empty reading been incorrect. Well at least that was the issue back then in 2011. Anyone with up to date info or who has done the swap that can provide me with some info will be greatly appreciated.

You would need the 36 gallon fuel pump assembly also unless you want it show empty early. The 36 gallon fuel pump is around $130 from rock auto.

Does bed length matter on the swap as well?

I will double check on this, all I read on the swap states that the fuel pumps are the same as well as the straps for the fuel tank. heat shield is different. Thanks for the rock auto info. I will definitely check them out.

I believe that most 12th gen 4x4s came with 36 gallon tanks regardless of bed length.

I screwed up and bought the 26 gallon fuel pump and the low fuel light came on early. Replaced it with Motorcraft PFS1040 and everything is back to normal.

Is your truck a 4x4 or 2wd? 36 gallon fuel tank?

4x4. Rockauto determines the pump size based on RWD or 4WD. That must mean that RWD is the 26 gallon tank while the 4WD is the 36 gallon tank.
