Default 35" vs 35", yes i wrote it correct

So I'm stuck here guys. I'm looking to buy some new wheels and tires and want 35" tires. I want to know the real difference between 315/70R17 vs 35x12.5 R17. On Nittos website it seems like the specs are pretty much identical, but the price is like $30 less per tire for the 315/70R17? Why would this be if they're almost identical in size? Am I missing something?

So should I go with the cheaper tire since they're almost identical?

Tread depth is deeper on the 35" vs the 315

According to those pics posted above anyways, both are load range E by the 121 Q ratings also according to pics.

So the 35" would last longer?

Theoretically, that would be my guess.

I think that's incorrect. The 315 tire is a load range D tire.

Actually, the 315 is a "D" load range or 8 ply tire. While the 35 is a "E" load range tire meaning it is a 10 ply tire. There may or may not be some ride quality differences as well. I would guess that you get about the same wear out of either tire. If it were my choice, I'd go for the 35" 10 ply.
