Default 3.7 v6??

I have a 2010 STX 4.6l V8. I have the ongoing transmission issues and am probably going to get rid of it before I run out of warranty.

I found a 2012 XLT 3.7 V6 with Custom Appearance Package. Great looking truck.

The question I have is would the 3.7 V6 be powerful enough to compare with the V8 I have right now. The dealer claims the V6 has more torque and horsepower than my current engine. I took a test drive in a 5.0 and loved that engine. Thinking about testing an EcoBoost.

Let me know your opinions.

If you don't tow, get the 3.7. I have the 3.7 and absolutely love it. It's very comparable to your 4.6. More horsepower, but a little less torque. The 3.7 likes to rev pretty high.

With the 3.7 custom package, you get the black cloth which is much nicer than the gray IMO.

I do like the interior. As far as towing, I do tow a trailer once in a while, but not always with a hugh load. But I do pull light towers and a trailer with a Club Car Carryall once in a while. I also love the feel of the V8

You can only get the custom package with the 3.7. Nicest lower end trim in my opinion.

The 3.7 is not a weak motor. Mine has a payload of 1300 lbs. I once had to haul 1600 lbs and it did better than I expected. I still had lots of passing power and climbed 2 steep hills no problem. I haven't towed yet but I know there is a member on here who tows regularly with his.

This engine does have more hp than your V8 but I think the torque is a little less. Driving unloaded it has more than enough power. I'm surprised at how quick it is. I think mine is rated to tow 5800 lbs.

The 3.7 is a great engine. I like the feel of it better than my moms 4.6.

I love my 3.7L. Very smooth engine. I routinely tow a 5300 lb boat and the little motor does it with ease.

Another quick note, it seems that people are having less problems with the 3.7 compared to the ecoboost and the 5.0.

Love my 3.7. 17 mpg combined to date, tows my #2500 boat with ease. Was late to a tee time today, punched it a couple of times, takes off like a scalded dog. As long as it lasts, and I believe it will, it is a great motor for this truck, as stated above the only real downside is towing limited to less than ~#6K.

Yup, just a simple little motor. Not much to go wrong in the engine department.

I've driven a few 3.7's. Awesome little engine, nothing too exciting but it definitely gets the job done well and loves 6000-7000 RPM. It has more horsepower than the 5.4L did in the 2004-2008 trucks. Crazy!

I actually found this engine more exciting than the 5.0 and eco. First truck I've driven that can rev to 7000 rpm
