3.55 or 3.73?
I found an ecoboost with max tow and 3.73 elocker. My last truck had the 5.0 and 3.55 elocker.
I added 34" tires and it took a hit on fuel mileage and power.
Question: Will the 3.73 be much better in that regard?
I don't really need the towing capacity, but I'm thinking it has this side benefit for me. Any downside?

Take it. Ford doesn't even offer 3.73 for the 3.5Eco anymore. It will handle bigger tires fine, but will probably use more boost so DO expect to take an MPG hit again.

I got 3.73s in my 14 Eco and am glad I did I don't think you will regret it.
As of 2016 you can still get the 3.5 with 3.73 gears. Not sure if this is true for all configurations but it's available on the 157" wb trucks.

You'll love the gearing for your bigger tires...if you can keep your foot out of it you'll be fine..
If you can't you'll love the way it launches off the line...get it and enjoy!! Just my 2 cents

You're talking a few hundred RPM in lower gears, and around 100 RPM in 6th. Hard to even see the change on the tach. It'll be almost unnoticeable from my experience. I wouldn't take gear ratio into consideration when buying.

I tell you what though, around here I have not seen dealer trucks offering 3.73 unless it must be in the higher trims.

This truck I'm looking at is the same price as others with the standard tow package and 3.55, but has 10-15K more miles at 54,000 mi. It is also certified, where the others aren't. Would you trade those miles for the certified 3.73?
