Your door panel code can tell you what gears you have too.

Default Now I'm curious...

I have a '14 FX4 with the 5.0. I tow a 5k lb boat/trailer, and I'm wondering about the gears in mine. I bought the truck with 10k miles on it, so I'd rather not just look up the stock info, because there are a LOT of aftermarket mod's on my truck, including 6.5" lift and 35" tires. Is there any way to know by looking at mph to RPM ratio?

Gear swaps really aren't that common in terms of aftermarket parts. Doubt someone did a gear swap with just 10k miles on it too.

Just look at the code on the door sticker.

(Stage3Motorsports site)

15: 3.15 ratio, open differential
27: 3.31 ratio, open differential
19: 3.55 ratio, open differential
26: 3.73 ratio, open differential
H9: 3.55 ratio, limited-slip differential
B6: 3.73 ratio, limited-slip differential
L5: 3.15 ratio, electronic locking differential
L3: 3.31 ratio, electronic locking differential
L9: 3.55 ratio, electronic locking differential
L6: 3.73 ratio, electronic locking differential
L4: 4.10 ratio, electronic locking differential

With the Eco, you will be fine with the 3.55's. I have 3.55's running 295/65's and pull 8,500 lbs. I do run a mild tow tune, but it pulls like an angry mule. 70 mph is 1800 rpm in 6th and 2200 rpm in 5th. 2000 rpm in 6th gear is 78 mph.

Well they did about $8k worth of aftermarket parts, and it seems really punchy off the line for a truck with 35's on it. But then on the highway going up hill it seems to bog down and downshift a lot. That's what confuses me. Off the line it's quick, but sluggish in 6th gear on the highway.

Thanks for listing all that...and I checked my door and sure enough....my axle code is L6. Hallelujah! I'm pumped. So glad I saw this thread and checked it out.

So the search continues.

See if they can get it back, if you like it it might be a potential sale and they won't have to take a risk at auction.

I like how he can't sell it on the lot, but is more than willing to sell it at auction.....

Then you're set for just about anything really. And if you really want some power, a custom tune really wakes up the ecoboost. More so than the NA engines.

I have the 6.2L engine in mine but I hear that a tune really helps in my case as well...I might wait a bit and see as I don't mind how it runs now. I have to fix the shudder on take off/braking before I try to add more power....haha
