2WD to 4WD
What's the best way ($ & feasibility) to make my 5.4L '07 f150 a 4WD? What kind of costs are involved with such a transformation? Why didn't I buy the 4WD in the beginning...kicking my own @$$! I've got the bug now...gotta do it, but don't want to sell and buy a new truck. Thanks in advance for the great advice!

+1 on responses. Don't try bothering converting a 4x2 into a 4x4. It requires a complete suspension change, transfer case, new driveshaft, perhaps ECM replacement... The cost of all that would likely surpass the cost of a new vehicle.
If you want 4WD, I'd look into a trade-in. There are no real alternatives to this.
I too would like to see 4WD standard across the line with an AWD setting. If Honda can do it on the Ridgeline, I don't see why other auto makers can't.

at this time of the with all you year end clearance deals out there you could get a used 4x4 probably cheaper than the one you gout now! and just pennies on the doller for a new one/last years model! plus no headache of all the wiring, fabbing,
fitting of all the stuff the 4x2 didn't come with!

Many, if not most, people don't really need 4x4 in their truck. So why pay the fuel economy penalty and the cost penalty across the whole line by making them all 4x4. I have a 4x4 and in all likelihood will never use it here in California, I kinda wish I had 4x2 actually or a good AWD option.

I think AWD is a good compromise. Even if it is the prudent decision, people who buy a 4x2 always want a 4x4 and wish they bought that. Having a good AWD option means that regardless if the vehicle is an urban daily driver. Of course, having 4H, N, and 4L would go without saying.

If you have an 07, you probably still have your warranty on it. And if you swap to 4x4 then no more warranty. It will probably be cheaper in the long run to just trade in and spend the cash on the up graded truck. Now, If you were absoloutly dead set on wanting to do a conversion, you didnt have a warranty or dont care about that. The cheapest way would probably be a SAS (Solid Axle Swap). Put it on leafs and call it a day. Ever go look at a 03 and earlier F250/350? There is nothing too the front end. Although cheapest way to do it. I would honestly just recomend trading the truck. If you do however decide to do an SAS post up!
