Are 295/70/18 tires to much?
I currently have 275/70/18 tires with 3.31 gears EB I live in a hilly area and tow quite a bit in the summer I'd like to get 295/70/18 to fill the wheel well gap up but I think it may be to much for the truck. I am tuned in the summer not in the winter.
What do you guys think? Also torn between bfg ko2 and st maxx

Can't speak from experience about the 3.31 gearing, but I can tell a power difference with my 295/70r18 trail grapplers with 3.55 gearing. My truck has the 5.0 and while it still tows and pulls well the power loss is noticeable. With that being said the cooper st maxx tires in that size are much lighter than my trail grapplers. I would say with a fairly light tire and a good tune you would be fine.

Big Blue Flame!!!
Well coley I'm in the same dilemma as you, my 20x8.5 rims and 305/55r20 didn't work out as they wouldn't seal the bead in the tire!!!! So back to the drawing board. I ended up getting them to order 285/75r18 Toyo Open Country ATII Extreme for my stock wheels (I also have 3.73 gearing) now im second guessing myself as I have a old set of 275/70r18 Michelin LTX ATII in my garage thinking I Should just buyithere last set of Fuel Hostage rims from them!!!! I'm in a pickle!!! Luckily it's good Friday rommorow so I'll have lots of time to think this over!!!

Where I live is surrounded by mountains (love 'em!). I chose Toyo OC A/T2 in OEM size 'cus I prefer to let torque of 6.2L in combo w/ 3.73 gearing minimize downshifting in "D" mode. Gets better overall trip mileage too.

Well they don't make the ko2 in that size. They will be making it in 305/65r18 which is 1/2 smaller in diameter than the 295/70/18 but not until October 2015.

I really want to take the leap but with 3.31 I don't think it's going to be good idea

I have the ST Maxx in the 295/70/18 size, and with the 3.55 gears, I noticed a hit in power. I'm in Eastern Kentucky and we have a lot of hills, and I downshift with 295/70's. I still get average 16 mpg though. I have the 5.0. As for filling out the wheel well, I don't think there is a better combo that a level and 295/70's.
