Default What determines which factory builds the truck?

Do certain trims/wheelbases/powertrains come exclusively from Dearborn or Kansas City, or do both plants make all of the various combinations of trucks?

I know (from watching the NatGeo special) there's one configuration that isn't built in Dearborn - but I don't know which one...

Your first question is correct, each plant is capable of certain things. However, there are certain trucks that can be built at either plant, but I'm not sure in this case what determines which plant will build the truck.

Engines. I think the Deerborn plant does the V8's and the other only does the Eco's. At least that's what I gathered from the very little information I obtained.

The build plant is most likely determined by load balancing, parts availability, and manpower.

Nope, Dearborn does plenty of EcoBoosts as well.

The EcoBoosts are built in Cleveland AFAIK, so Dearborn would be a closer stop, but I've also seen KC trucks with the EcoBoost engine.

I was originally thinking it was geographical - maybe Dearborn supplied the Eastern US and KC the Western, but I've seen new trucks from KC on the east coast as well. Then I thought maybe it was wheelbase-dependent, since the 145" wheelbase is the most common (RC 8', SC 6.5' and CC 5.5'). I'm guessing the 163" (SC with 8') is probably the least common - I hardly ever see any of those.

The load balancing would make sense, it was just a comment on another thread about the Limiteds being built in Dearborn only that got me thinking.
