Default 26 vs. 36 Gallon Tank

On the 2011 model, I can't decipher which models have which size gas tank. Can someone break it down? Is it by engine, trim level, tow package, 4X4, wheelbase, or what? I think that a 36 gallon tank would be preferable for towing. Thanks in advance.

5.0 v8 engine has the 36 gal tank, ecoboost has the 26 gal.

I'm not 100% certain but to my knowledge all 4x4s come with the 36 gallon tank and the 2wds come with 26 gallon tank with some exceptions. Those exceptions are 1. Ecoboost only comes with 26 gal 2. Raptor only comes with the 26 gal 3. Harley comes with the 36 gal 4. Some XL fleet configurations differ

Seems odd that Ford would choose the smaller tank in combination with the engine touted as its heavy duty towing option. I wonder if anyone has modified their ecoboost with the 36 gallon tank or if there is a reason that it won't fit.

From what I understand you can NOT get a 36gal tank with an ecoboost. Seems silly to me too but that's the word.

Doesn't getting a 5.5 bed vs 6.5 bed affect getting the bigger tank?

The two tanks are the same length and width. The 36 is taller. All fittings are in the same locations so swapping should be easy. I think the ecoboost has a lifetime fuel filter in the tank.
