Default 22's in Ecoboost with 3.73 - MPG?

Any recommendations on putting 22's on my Ecoboost Platinum. I like the Lariat Limited rims but just don't want to sacrifice mpg's, I read that the 3.73 already will lower my mpg.

Thanks
Moe

It's the size and weight of the tires you're going to run that makes the biggest difference. Stock tires should be no problem. To me the 3.73 gear's are the best to get these big heavy truck's rolling but when crusing you may lose about 1/4 mpg as opposed to a 3.55.

Any recommendations on what tires to run on these rims that won't add too much weight. The ones that come with the Limited are too low profile for me.

You're buying 22" wheels and you're worried about the tire being too low of a profile?

Yeah because the rim gets banged up. I'd love to stay with 20" but I love the limited (old HD) rims.

If you're most interested in improving fuel economy and are not that concerned with appearance, the best thing to do would be to mount 17" or 18" Ford Factory F150 wheels and tires and have the truck system reprogrammed. Some people fail to consider long term fuel mileage over a 1 to 2 mile per gallon difference. If you happen to be one of those rare drivers that actually reduce the wheel and tire size rather than going with over size wheel/tire setups you will benefit in the long run.

If you're most interested in looks then fuel economy will suffer. Especially with 3.73:1 gears.

If you want a taller tire for less rim damage then just get a taller tire for the 20's.

I don't really know how you are going to remedy the fear of damaging your wheels by having a low profile tire. 22's are generally going to have to be on a low profile tire to keep it somewhat close to the total diameter of the factory wheel/tire package? Honestly, just have to be more vigilant to potholes and the such. I was always nervous driving around on the 19" wheels/tires on my G8 GT due to a past experience of bending a wheel on a previous vehicle with 18" wheels/tires.

Good luck on your choice and finding the right one. I don't know how the Eco will do with that setup. My sucks gas like a redneck drinks beer, and that is stock with 18" wheels on 3.73 gears. Post pics. when you get the right ones.

So you want a bigger rim, but you don't want low profile tires, while staying with the stock size tire. I don't understand?

I'd assume the OP wants to stay with the stock outside diameter of tire.
