2014 FX4 stock rear shocks question
Can't find a good answer to this question of mine... does the FX4 model come with different shocks from the other trim levels? I've read a couple things that state they come with a stiffer shock for off road use. Trying to find out if this is true or not because it would explain my ride being a little stiffer than I prefer, and definitely stiffer than my 2012 lariat with similar tires/level setup. If it is the case, then I know I can replace with a better on road shock and be back to the way I like it.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, when I look them up in my parts catalog, an FX4 lists 'premium off road shock absorbers'. They are different shocks.
Have you considered Bilstein shocks?

The ride will be firmer with Bilsteins than it would with stock shocks. But it would also be a more controlled ride with less body roll in the corners.

Good to know, as I have the same question. Just bought a 14 fx4, and seems like the ride could be better. The rear seems to almost bounce over any bump in the road of the wheel hit it at the same time.

20" wheels make for a stiffer ride as well. Kinda like that song, too much rim makes the ride too hard.

ExpresswayFord thank you very much for confirming! That's what I figured and makes complete sense. Huge help.
techrep how does that make any sense at all? The normal 4x4s have no special shocks or different parts from the 2wd, so why on earth would you think they should ride rougher on paved road?

I was talked out of getting the Fox 2.0 coilovers, so I just went with a leveling kit. Plus I read reviews here that said the rears produced a much more noticeable difference than the front coilovers.

4WD (FX4) has beefed up suspension and blocks in the rear end...it's going to ride stiffer. Expressway just told you this...
