If you owned an 04-08 F-150 with the upgraded Audiophile sound system, you'll understand why the newer Sony system sounds "meh". The 04-08 system hit hard and LOUD! I like my music loud and I find that the sony system's bass response is only good at about 1/4 volume, and 1/2 volume is about as loud as it gets. After 1/2 it seems to just distort itself.
With that said, snowball's chance in hell I'm about to dig into this factory system to try and upgrade it!

but im not one of those that cranks the audio up to ear deafening levels either.
it sounds good at reasonable volume levels.
i want to be able to hear people talk without hearing aids when im in my 50's.

Depends on your interpretation and experience. Whatever ripoff factory Rockford Fosgate inspired sound system I had in my 2010 Titan was the best stock system by far. It trumped any Bose, Kicker, Alpine or whatever else I have had. That said my Ford is alright. I am going to do the mod that many have done here and stuff some poly fill in the sub enclosure to get the bass lows a little more prominent. Other than that its not a bad system or anything.... but I'm not that picky either. My engines noise is way better anyway.
I really want the upgraded sound system in a 2014 F 150 but can't swing the extra $$$ to get one off the lot

The radio in my 2014 XLT blows away the radio that was in my 2011 XLT. I can't believe the difference!! Dare I say, it might even sound better than my Camaro, which has Boston Acoustics.

The Boston system I had in my magnum was about as loud as the Sony system if not a bit louder and it didnt have a sub. I would just lile more volume out of it. When my girlfriends escape is only turned up to about 1/4 volume its about as loud as my system at 3/4
