But some manage to have quite a bit of fun with it...

The 2017 3.5 EB with the 10 speed transmission is a completely different animal. They are monsters.

High Revs?
I tow 11,000lb trailer with my 5.0L and it only sees RPMs north of 3,900 when accelerating onto the HWY. Once I get to cruising speed it almsot never downshifts below 4th gear climbing hills. It climbs steep hills at 3,400RPMS @ 70MPH period.
The EB crowd acts like a 5.0L will only tow when its turning 5,000RPMs or higher. This is not true.

I roll 70MPH at 2,300RPMs in 5th gear all day and it will climb some hills without downshifting out of 5th.

And I say Tune the 5.0L for $450 and it still costs less then the $1,695 3.5EB option.

I agree completely, and you have a reliable engine that will hit 200k miles without a major failure.

And since when did most people start picking their truck engines based on the RPMs it turns?🙃

RPMs X TQ = POW-WA!

I picked my truck based on what was available and what my preferences were. I didn't care about engine because all of the engines work great. I didn't pick a 5.0 just due to the exhaust the guy before put on it. Too loud and annoying just test driving. I do miss the sound of the v8, but I am enjoying a quiet vehicle for long road trips more than the sound.

If you are pulling at the limits of the truck, it is not the engine that I would personally be worried about. That load is starting to control the truck instead of the truck controlling the load. Either engine is capable of way more than the truck, you can't go wrong with either.
